Tracing the Challenges of the Energy Transition

In 2024, Yannis Kampouris and I authored an article examining the challenges that electricity grids would face in the future due to the lack of interconnections, the numerous bottlenecks in the European network, the increasing prevalence of curtailments, and the overall cost balance. At the time, we could not have anticipated how quickly these issues would become a reality in Southern Europe.

The article provided an in-depth analysis of the complexities surrounding the energy transition, highlighting historical context, technological hurdles, and geopolitical factors shaping the shift to renewables. Further discussion on policy frameworks and investment strategies could enhance the analysis, particularly regarding the feasibility of large-scale storage solutions and cross-border energy cooperation.
